Training, Scholarships and Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship program

We have put in place a 4-year training program for apprentice technicians designed for mechanics who have already received basic mechanic training for heavy equipment.

In addition to training on Caterpillar heavy equipment or generators, the program supports apprentices throughout the certification process. They can complete both their training and development while working at Toromont Cat. With their technician’s certificate in hand, they will enjoy more career opportunities – in the shop, at worksites or on rotation – and can even migrate to another field such as training, sales or management if that is what they wish to do.

The apprenticeship program gives participants access to:

  • A mixed learning model that offers both theoretical and hands-on experience
  • Heavy equipment or generator technician’s certification
  • A certified technician job at Toromont Cat
  • Many career opportunities across the country
  • A 2-year interest-free loan to get outfitted with tools

Management Trainee program

Leaders of Tomorrow Program

Toromont Cat has been supporting management interns as part of its professional development strategy for more than 35 years.

The 2-year program was designed to offer practical training on different company services and activities, in order to allow interns to acquire a broad and varied experience.

Graduates will gain a comprehensive technical and economic understanding of the industry and supply systems as well as products, services and the different industry players.

Thanks to this internship program, many managers working today have successfully progressed through the organization, including our president and CEO, Scott Medhurst.

Co-op program

Test your know-how by putting what you’ve learned in the classroom into practice alongside Toromont Cat certified technicians.

The experience that you’ll gain during your co-op internship will prepare you for a solid career once you obtain your diploma. Plus, you’ll discover the rewarding world of Toromont Cat.

Created exclusively for high-school students wishing to learn about mechanics or students enrolled at vocational training centres, the program gives them a general idea of what working in the heavy equipment trade is like. Upon successfully completing their internship and professional training, a student can then continue on as an apprentice at Toromont Cat.

Students must meet the following criteria to be admitted to the co-op program:

  • Be currently enrolled at an educational institution full-time
  • Be registered in an approved post-secondary co-op program
