EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT
The five stages of equipment management: Selection, Purchase, Operation, Maintenance and Replacement. Even before you put a new machine into operation, you're making important decisions that affect your long term profitability.

With Caterpillar's five-stage Equipment Management System, we can provide the consultations, products, services, and computer programs that help you make the right choices " at the right time " for your operation. By using this comprehensive system, you will get more performance from your equipment and keep your operation running more profitably.
SELECTION:

For what types of jobs will the equipment be used? What machine will work best with existing equipment? How productive will it need to be to turn a profit?

We're ready to help with: Detailed comparisons of vital specifications of the machines you're considering. Machine demonstrations under your actual conditions so handling and performance can be seen and measured. Job site studies that reveal what machines can do under different operating conditions. Estimates of cycle time, productivity, and costs.

PURCHASE:

Which machine has the lowest production costs? What financial options exist, and who should finance the machine?

We will help you consider all your financial options: Caterpillar's Equipment Investment Analysis software calculates and compares the production costs and profitability potential of the machines you are considering. We can also help determine your future after-tax costs and profit potential based on the purchasing method and depreciation schedules. We offer alternative financing plans which include installment sale contracts, CAT Financial Lease, Determined Value Lease, Long Term Rental, and Value Option Lease.

OPERATION:

How is a job realistically bid? What production costs can be expected? What machines are needed? How well-trained are your operators?

To evaluate your operational costs, we will: Help you estimate a machine's cycle time, productivity, and costs as job conditions change for your existing job or for future jobs on which you are bidding. Call upon Performance Handbooks, estimating booklets, and software such as the Earthmoving Fundamentals, VEHSIM, and Fleetmatch programs. Provide your operators with proper training through seminars, literature, and videotapes.

MAINTENANCE:

How can you assure all necessary preventive maintenance is done? What is the most cost effective repair? What manpower, skills, and tools are needed?

We'll help you make important maintenance decisions that can help you keep productivity high, control costs, lengthen equipment life, avoid downtime, and increase trade-in value.
We can help you build a better maintenance plan which includes: Performing PM's, using scheduled oil sampling, scheduling inspections and repairs, selecting the best repair option and keeping accurate records. Determining the manpower, training and tools required to keep your equipment in good condition.

REPLACEMENT:

When does a machine pass its optimum life expectancy? Should it continue to be repaired as needed? Should it be reassigned to another, less demanding application? Or should it be rebuilt or replaced?

We'll help you determine the right option: Perhaps our component repair/rebuild options will get you up and running most economically Our services include component exchange and other comprehensive CAT engine, drive train, transmission, and hydraulic service options. When wear is significant, rebuild options are available for components, systems and complete machines. Most extensive of these options is a CAT Certified Rebuild process which restores machine performance and warranty to like-new at significant savings. Replacing the machine may mean the highest costs now, but may provide the best long term value. You can get back to work fast, take advantage of the latest technology and switch the size and type of equipment to meet current needs.
